Overview

Nottingham Trent University, with three campuses—two in Nottingham and one nearby—is one of the largest universities in the UK, currently enrolling 28,000 students. Originally founded in 1843, it gained university status in 1992. According to the National Student Survey, 93% of Nottingham Trent students would recommend the university, and it was named 'University of the Year' by Times Higher Education in 2018. Known for its Art, Design, Fashion, and Creative Arts programs, the university also boasts one of the UK's largest law schools. Nottingham Trent excels in sports, with strong performances in the British University and College Sport leagues. Recently, it received a major grant to continue research in cancer diagnosis and therapy. The university is partnered with 50 academic institutions across 40 countries, and some programs offer opportunities for students to study abroad. A survey of graduates revealed that 93% of Nottingham Trent undergraduates were either employed or pursuing further studies just six months after graduation.

Ranking

Nottingham Trent University ranks 42nd in the Times University Guide 2025, 49th in the Guardian University Guide 2025, and 140th in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024. In 2018, it was named 'University of the Year' by Times Higher Education, and The Times and Sunday Times University Guide recognized it as the 'Modern University of the Year.' The 2021 REF results show that 99% of research submitted in Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy was rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent, while 98% of research in Engineering received the same assessment.
