Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University is a prestigious public research university located in College Station, Texas. Initially established as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, it was the first public institution of higher education in the state. Texas A&M received the distinction of being named a sea-grant institution in 1971 and a space-grant institution in 1989, making it one of the first universities to achieve the triple status of land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant designations.
