Overview

The Medical University of Graz (Med Uni Graz), located in Graz, Austria, is a leading institution in medical education, research, and patient care. Originally established in 1863 as part of the Karl-Franzens-University Graz, it became an independent university in 2004. Med Uni Graz offers various academic programs, including Human Medicine, Dental Medicine, Nursing Science, PhD programs, and postgraduate courses. The university follows an innovative and practice-oriented approach, based on the biopsychosocial model of health. Renowned for its cutting-edge research, it houses specialized centers like Biobank Graz—one of Europe’s largest biobanks—alongside the Center for Medical Research and the Center for Knowledge and Technology Transfer in Medicine.

Situated in Austria’s second-largest city, Med Uni Graz is part of the Medical Science City Graz, which combines education, research, and clinical care. Led by Rector Andrea Kurz, it operates with a substantial global budget of over €736 million for 2025–2027.
