Wroclaw Medical University (WMU), officially known as Uniwersytet Medyczny im. Piastów Śląskich we Wrocławiu, is a distinguished public medical institution located in Wrocław, Poland. Established in 1950, WMU has evolved into a leading center for medical education and research in the region. ​

Academic Structure and Programs

WMU comprises six faculties: Medicine, Medicine and Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, and Physiotherapy. These faculties offer a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including courses conducted in English to accommodate international students. The university also hosts a Doctoral School for advanced research training. ​

The university is affiliated with the Jan Mikulicz-Radecki University Clinical Hospital, the largest hospital in the region, providing extensive clinical training opportunities for students and serving as a hub for medical research and patient care. WMU is also home to specialized centers such as the Research, Scientific, and Didactic Center for Dementia Diseases in Ścinawa, emphasizing its commitment to addressing pressing health challenges. ​

Wroclaw Medical University (WMU) consistently ranks among the top institutions in Poland and has gained international recognition for its excellence in medical education and research. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, WMU is placed within the 501–600 bracket, making it the highest-ranked Polish university in that edition. According to the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings, WMU holds the 953rd position globally, ranking 6th among Polish universities. Additionally, in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2024, WMU falls within the 901–1000 range, highlighting its growing global reputation, research output, and academic performance in the medical sciences.
