Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU), located in Poznań, Poland, is a prominent public research institution named after the esteemed Polish Romantic poet, Adam Mickiewicz. The university's origins trace back to 1611 when King Sigismund III Vasa granted the Jesuit College in Poznań the status of a university. The modern incarnation of AMU was officially established on May 7, 1919, following Poland's regaining of independence. Initially known as Wszechnica Piastowska (Piast University), it was renamed the University of Poznań in 1920 and later, in 1955, adopted its current name to honor Adam Mickiewicz. 

Today, AMU stands as one of Poland's foremost academic centers, comprising 20 in-town faculties and four out-of-town campuses. The university offers over 200 professional specializations, reflecting a broad spectrum of disciplines.
