​Khalifa University of Science and Technology, located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is a leading research-intensive institution specializing in science, engineering, and medicine.

History and Formation

The university's origins date back to 1989 with the establishment of the Etisalat College of Engineering in Sharjah, aimed at developing skilled professionals in engineering and applied sciences. In 2017, a presidential decree merged three prominent institutions—the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and The Petroleum Institute—into the current Khalifa University of Science and Technology. ​

Khalifa University comprises three colleges and 36 academic departments, offering a wide array of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. ​Khalifa University of Science and Technology has demonstrated significant advancement in global and regional academic rankings. In the QS World University Rankings 2025, the university ascended 28 positions to secure the 202nd spot globally, maintaining its status as the top-ranked institution in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the seventh consecutive year. Regionally, Khalifa University climbed three places to achieve the 4th position in the QS Arab Region Universities Rankings 2025, reinforcing its prominence in the Arab world. Additionally, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 placed the university in the 201–250 bracket globally. These accolades reflect Khalifa University's unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its growing influence on both regional and international stages.
