History and Formation
The university's origins date back to 1989 with the establishment of the Etisalat College of Engineering in Sharjah, aimed at developing skilled professionals in engineering and applied sciences. In 2017, a presidential decree merged three prominent institutions—the Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and The Petroleum Institute—into the current Khalifa University of Science and Technology.
