Saint Petersburg State Mining Institute, also known as the Mining University or Saint Petersburg Mining University, is one of Russia’s oldest and most prestigious technical universities. Founded in 1773 by decree of Catherine the Great, it holds the distinction of being the first higher technical educational institution in Russia, and one of the oldest mining schools in the world.
