Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) was founded in 1877, originally established as the Naito-Shinjuku Branch Office under the Industrial Encouragement Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. In May 1949, it became a national university in accordance with the National University Establishment Law, following the merger of Tokyo College of Agriculture and Forestry and Tokyo Textile College. With a history spanning over 130 years, TUAT has its roots in the Naito-Shinjuku Branch Office founded in 1874, and its establishment as a national university in 1949 marked a significant development in Japan’s agricultural and technological education.
