Overview

The University of Oregon (UO) is one of only 62 research institutions in the U.S. and Canada that are members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), and it is the only AAU member in Oregon. UO offers nearly 90 graduate degree programs, many of which are highly recognized nationally and internationally due to the excellence of their faculty and research achievements. For example, the College of Arts and Sciences ranks 15th in the nation for public research universities. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks the College of Education’s graduate program among the best, with the Special Education program ranked third nationally. The Charles H. Lundquist College of Business is also ranked among the top 10 on the West Coast, and its M.B.A. program is in the top 6% nationally.

The UO's School of Architecture and Allied Arts is recognized for its focus on sustainable design, with Landscape Architecture ranked first regionally. Its School of Journalism and Communication is known for its rare master's program in literary nonfiction. The UO’s School of Music and Dance is the only comprehensive music and dance school in the Oregon University System. Its Law School is among the top 100 nationally, and its Environmental Law program is highly ranked. The UO also houses over 60 research institutes across various disciplines, fostering collaboration and excellence.

The University of Oregon (UO) is highly ranked in various national and international rankings. According to U.S. News & World Report (2025), UO is ranked 109 among National Universities and 52 among Top Public Schools. In the QS World University Rankings (2025), the university is placed between 801 and 850 globally. Additionally, Niche College Rankings (2025) highlight UO for its excellent college food, ranking 17th out of 1,344 colleges. These rankings underscore UO's dedication to academic excellence, research, and creating a vibrant, diverse student community.
