Overview

East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is situated in Shanghai, a vibrant global city renowned for its cultural diversity, distinguished personalities, and stunning attractions. As one of China's key research universities, ECUST is celebrated for its unique academic strengths and well-rounded curriculum encompassing science, engineering, materials, computing, economics, management, arts, and law. Guided by its motto, “Industry, Pragmatics, Inspiration, and Morality,” the university continuously evaluates its progress and refines its operational models to attract dedicated students eager to excel in their education.

Over the past five decades, ECUST has nurtured generations of outstanding graduates who have significantly contributed to society. In 1988, during the 30th anniversary celebration of the Petroleum Refining Department, Chairman Jiang Zemin penned the motto, “Talented people come to the fore in great numbers,” to commemorate the occasion.

Today, ECUST maintains extensive and enduring academic collaborations with over 60 universities, corporations, and research institutions across the United States, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, and Australia. The university hosts more than 16,300 full-time undergraduate students and 8,500 graduate students. Its faculty and staff number approximately 3,700, including around 1,000 professors and associate professors.
