Overview

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is the state’s flagship institution, a member of the Big Ten Conference, and ranked among the top U.S. research universities. Together with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, it ranks in the top 100 globally for earning U.S. patents, according to a 2020 report by the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association. The university’s May 2021 graduating class was the largest in its history. In Fall 2021, the number of first-time freshmen who are first-generation college students increased by 4.7% to 1,173, highlighting Nebraska’s dedication to providing access to higher education. With strong academics and affordability, Nebraska was recognized as a Best Value College for 2021 by The Princeton Review. Nearly 25,000 students are enrolled across Nebraska’s nine colleges: Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, Engineering, Hixson-Lied Fine and Performing Arts, Journalism and Mass Communications, and Law.

Additionally, Niche Rankings places UNL at 32 for Best Colleges for Agricultural Sciences in America and 71 for Best Big Colleges.
