Established in October 1951 in Shanghai, East China Normal University (ECNU) is recognized as one of China’s leading universities. It is supported by the national initiatives “Project 211” and “Project 985.” Spread across two campuses in the Minhang and Putuo Districts, with a combined area exceeding 207 hectares, ECNU is often called a "Garden University" due to its picturesque campus environment.
Since China's opening to the world in 1978, ECNU has rapidly evolved into a prominent comprehensive research university. The institution currently comprises three faculties, 23 full-time schools, two colleges, a College of Marxism, 11 advanced research institutes, and a college for further education. According to the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities (2024-2025), ECNU is ranked 253 worldwide. In the QS World University Rankings 2025, the university is placed in the 501, while the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 places ECNU within the 251-300 range. Additionally, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2024 positions ECNU in the 201-300 tier, showcasing its prominence in research and education on both national and international fronts.
