Overview

The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) was established in 1952 through the merger of top departments from five prestigious universities during a national restructuring of China’s higher education system. Over the course of more than 50 years, USTB has grown into one of the most prominent national universities, supported by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Known for its excellence in metallurgy and materials science, USTB primarily focuses on engineering while also offering programs in science, management, humanities, economics, and law. It was one of the first universities authorized to create state-approved graduate schools and was included in China’s "211 Project," aimed at developing a group of top-tier universities. In 2006, USTB was also selected as one of the pilot institutions for the "Platform for National Advanced Disciplines Innovation" program.
