Overview

Southeast University (SEU) is a prominent national key university directly overseen by the Central Government and the Ministry of Education of China. It is part of both Project 211 and Program 985, initiatives funded by the Central Government to develop world-class universities. Situated in Nanjing, the ancient capital of China, SEU has multiple campuses, including Sipailou, Jiulonghu, and Dingjiaqiao, spanning a total area of 393 hectares. One of China’s oldest higher education institutions, SEU traces its origins back to 1902 when it was founded as Sanjiang Normal College. It later evolved into Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University, and National Central University. Following a national restructuring in 1952, Nanjing Institute of Technology was established on the grounds of the former National Central University. In 1988, the institution was renamed Southeast University, and in 2000, it integrated Nanjing Railway Medical College, Nanjing College of Communications, and Nanjing Geological School. The main campus is located at the heart of Nanjing, a city long known for its educational significance dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
