Aix-Marseille University was founded by decree No. 2011-1010 on August 24, 2011, and began its operations on January 1, 2012. It emerged from the merger of the University of Provence, University of the Mediterranean, and Paul Cézanne University. Today, it is the largest university in France in terms of student enrollment, faculty, staff, and budget.
