The Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is a public university that traditionally focuses on science and technology while expanding its scope to include management and the humanities. Established in 1940 in Yan’an, Shaanxi Province, BIT moved to Beijing in 1949. A year later, it merged with parts of the Institut Franco-Chinois, including its Departments of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. BIT aligns its development with China's strategic priorities and global advancements in science, technology, and education.
The institution strengthens its core expertise in mechanical, vehicle, and automation engineering, while also enhancing IT-related disciplines and advancing new capabilities in aerospace engineering. It integrates science and engineering with management and the humanities to foster interdisciplinary excellence.
BIT boasts over 3,500 faculty members and serves more than 25,000 full-time students, including 14,000 undergraduates, 8,000 postgraduates, and over 3,000 doctoral candidates.
