Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a renowned, research-driven institution, predominantly focused on science and engineering. The university offers a diverse range of programs across fields such as science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, law, literature, philosophy, and education. It operates 17 schools, providing 74 undergraduate programs, 199 master’s programs, and 114 doctoral programs. As of 2007, the university had over 17,000 full-time undergraduate students and nearly 13,000 graduate students. Additionally, XJTU hosts over 1,100 international students from approximately 50 countries.
The faculty consists of more than 2,500 full-time members, including 16 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as esteemed members of international academic bodies such as the American Academy of Engineering and the British Royal Academy.
Since 1950, XJTU has been authorized to admit international students under the Chinese Government Scholarship program. To date, the university has trained over 5,000 international students from over 52 countries and regions, with popular fields of study including Chinese language, MBBS (in English), Management, Engineering, Computer Science, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, Xi'an Jiaotong University is ranked 295th globally, maintaining its reputation as one of China's top universities. The institution is well-regarded for its strengths in engineering, with programs in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, as well as Energy Engineering, ranking among the top globally. Additionally, Xi'an Jiaotong University excels in fields such as medicine, with its MBBS program in English recognized internationally, and it also performs well in business and economics
