Overview

Beijing Normal University (BNU), governed by the Ministry of Education, is a prestigious institution renowned for its expertise in teacher education, educational science, and foundational studies across arts and sciences. Established in 1902 as the Normal College of the Imperial University of Peking, the university underwent several name changes before becoming Beijing Normal University in 1923, marking it as the first Normal University in Chinese history. Over time, BNU expanded with mergers such as Peking Women’s Normal University in 1931 and Fu Jen Catholic University in 1952.

The main campus, located in North Taipingzhuang, spans 172.64 acres, offering a vibrant environment for academic and research activities. With a student body of 22,000, including 8,900 undergraduates, 11,300 postgraduates, and 1,800 international students, BNU houses 22 schools, 1 education faculty, 2 departments, and 36 research institutes. The university's library is a major resource hub, holding over 4.1 million volumes and approximately 17,300 GB of digital materials, including 1,400 GB of e-books.
