Overview

Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) is one of Germany's largest technical universities and a prominent academic institution in Europe. As a comprehensive university with 17 faculties organized into five schools, TUD offers an extensive range of 124 disciplines and conducts research across diverse fields. Key research priorities include Health Sciences, Biomedicine & Bioengineering, Information Technology & Microelectronics, Smart Materials & Structures, Energy, Mobility & Environment, and Culture & Societal Change—recognized as exemplary in Germany and Europe.

Since 2012, TUD has been designated as one of Germany's "Universities of Excellence." In the Excellence Initiative's second phase, TUD achieved success with its Institutional Strategy and three Clusters of Excellence: Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed), Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), and Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering (DIGS-BB). In 2019, three new Clusters of Excellence commenced: Physics of Life (PoL), Complexity and Topology in Quantum Materials (ct.qmat), and the Centre for Tactile Internet (CeTI). From November 2019, TUD has received sustained funding under the Excellence Strategy of Germany's Federal and State Governments.
