Overview

Osaka University, founded in 1931 as Osaka Imperial University following the merger of the Osaka Prefecture Medical School, is one of Japan’s leading national universities. Initially established with two schools—Medicine and Science—it quickly expanded, adding Engineering in 1933 and later, after World War II, the School of Letters and the School of Economics, renaming itself Osaka University. Today, it encompasses 11 undergraduate schools, 16 graduate schools, and five research institutes, alongside two university hospitals and several advanced research centers.

Spanning four campuses—Suita, Toyonaka, Minoh, and Nakanoshima—Osaka University serves over 25,000 students, including 2,000 international students. Among its notable alumni are Nobel Laureate Hideki Yukawa, Akira Yoshino (the inventor of the lithium-ion battery), and Sony founder Akio Morita.

The university's diverse academic and research programs, particularly in international public policy and frontier biosciences, contribute significantly to global innovation and are supported by a strong faculty and cutting-edge facilities .
