Adelaide has always been at the forefront of innovation. It was the first Australian university to admit female students, offer science and business degrees, and establish a conservatorium of music.

Our distinguished alumni include the first female Prime Minister of Australia, a space-walking astronaut, an Indigenous Rhodes Scholar, and numerous notable leaders in law and government. Additionally, we boast multiple Nobel Prize winners among our faculty and graduates.

As the only member of Australia's Group of Eight in South Australia, we contribute to global solutions in a wide range of disciplines, with 41 areas of research rated 'well above' world standard. These areas include space sciences, AI, medicine, and environmental science.

Ranking

The University of Adelaide is currently ranked 89 in the world according to the 2024 QS World University Rankings​. It has made significant progress, moving up 20 places from its previous position at 109th in the 2023 rankings​. The university is also consistently ranked among the top 100 in various global rankings, including Times Higher Education (88th) and US News Best Global Universities (74th)​. This places it firmly among Australia's leading institutions, with strong research and teaching contributions that have garnered global recognition.
