Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is the third-oldest university in Scotland and the fifth oldest in the UK. In the REF 2021, covering research from 2014 to 2020, Aberdeen maintained its position as fifth in Scotland for research power. Key achievements include ranking first in the UK for Theology and Religious Studies, first in Scotland and eighth in the UK for Public Health, Health Services, and Primary Care, and achieving a top-quartile ranking for Research Power in Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences.
