Overview

The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is a distinguished research institution that is part of the University of California system, consistently ranked among the top research universities both domestically and internationally. The idea to establish UCSC arose from a proposal to the University of California Board of Regents, aiming to create a competitive public university in Santa Cruz.

Since its opening in 1965, UCSC has been dedicated to providing students with cutting-edge knowledge across various disciplines. The university offers over 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs, positioning itself as a leader in interdisciplinary education and research, particularly in fields like arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological sciences, and social sciences.

The university's main campus spans more than 810 hectares in the Santa Cruz Mountains, featuring 10 residential colleges and the modern McHenry Library, which houses materials related to arts, humanities, and social sciences. In addition to academics, UCSC encourages students to gain practical experience through its strong industry connections, as well as the opportunity to participate in year-long exchange programs with institutions such as the University of New Mexico and the University of New Hampshire.
