Overview

More than 15,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate, from across the globe, attend the University of Miami (UM) each academic year. The University has expanded beyond its main campus in Coral Gables to include various specialized locations, such as the medical campus in Downtown Miami, the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science on Virginia Key, the John J. Koubek Center in Little Havana, and the South and Richmond campuses in southwest Miami-Dade County. UM is also the largest private employer in Miami-Dade, with over 10,000 faculty and staff members. Founded in 1925, the University began with just 560 students and has grown into a prominent educational institution with 12 colleges and schools, offering more than 150 undergraduate, 130 master’s, 60 doctoral, and 2 professional programs. Research is a core focus at UM, with expenditures in sponsored programs reaching nearly $270 million. Student life is vibrant, with over 260 student organizations and a strong Greek community.
