The University of Portsmouth is situated on the south coast of England, approximately 150 km southwest of London. With over 31,000 students, including 5,700 international students, Portsmouth is a modern, multi-disciplinary institution offering a wide range of practical courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels across five faculties. Many of its bachelor’s degree programs feature a one-year paid work placement, and the University is highly regarded for student satisfaction and graduate employability. Portsmouth excels in subjects such as geology, earth and environmental sciences, pharmacy, sport science, psychology, mechanical and software engineering, computing, law, criminology, forensic studies, international relations, journalism, architecture, and property development. It also offers a comprehensive selection of business courses, including economics, accounting, finance, human resource management, and law. The University is partnered with International College Portsmouth - Navitas, which provides Foundation Year, International Year One, and Pre-Masters courses.

The University of Portsmouth is ranked 55th in the Times University Guide 2025, 41st in the Guardian University Guide 2025, and is placed between 401st and 500th in the THE World University Rankings 2025. It holds the 104th position in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024. Portsmouth has received a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked 4th in the UK's most affordable cities for students in the NatWest Student Living Index 2023. According to the REF 2021, 77% of the University’s research is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, demonstrating its significant impact on society, health, culture, and the environment. Additionally, the University of Portsmouth ranks third among all modern post-92 universities in the UK for research power.
