Overview

The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) is a highly prestigious program offered by the University of Melbourne to support both domestic and international students pursuing a research master’s or doctoral degree. This scholarship aims to alleviate financial burdens, allowing students to focus on high-level research in a supportive and resource-rich environment. Around 350 new and continuing students are awarded under this scholarship program.

  • Preference will be given to those with professional experience and published works.

Application Procedure

The Melbourne Research Scholarship application process varies for new and continuing students.

Application Process for New Students

No separate scholarship application is required for those planning to apply for the degree program in 2024. Applicants who submit their admission application before the deadline, are automatically considered for the scholarship.

Within seven days of application submission, an email will sent to eligible applicants confirming that their applications will be evaluated for the Melbourne Research Scholarship.

Application Process for Continuing Students

An online application is mandatory for those who are already enrolled in a graduate research program.

What Financial Support is Available?

Stipend and fee offset scholarships

• Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
• Living allowance of $37,000 per year (2024 full-time study rate) for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
• Relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia.
• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia
