Overview

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation rooted in Christian democratic values. It is dedicated to promoting democracy, the rule of law, and the implementation of social and market-based economic structures while advocating for human rights both in Europe and globally.

In line with these principles, the Foundation offers scholarships to international master's students and graduates, enabling them to study and conduct research at universities in Germany. Through this, KAS fosters intercultural dialogue, the creation of international networks, and the global integration of universities and scientific communities.

The upcoming regional selection meetings for 2024 will be held in collaboration with KAS offices in India, Tanzania, and Colombia. Upon completing their studies in Germany, KAS expects its alumni to play an active role in strengthening the relationship between their home countries and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Currently, KAS supports scholars from 55 countries, covering a broad range of fields such as law, science, music, and medicine, among others.

Who Can Apply?

Scholarship Programme for International Students is designed for students and graduates who hold a university degree and wish to pursue postgraduate or master's studies, doctoral research, or a research stay lasting at least four semesters at a university in Germany.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Hold a university degree (we do not support bachelor’s studies),
• Demonstrate above-average academic performance,
• Have a good command of the German language (B2 level),
• Be actively involved in voluntary work,
• Intend to study for at least four semesters at a university in Germany,
• Possess a broad general education and a strong interest in political affairs,
• Support democratic values and human rights,
• Be open to personal growth and demonstrate tolerance,
• Show strong motivation and the ability to articulate life goals clearly.

Additional Conditions:

• Students in Medicine or Pharmacy can apply only after completing their intermediate exams in Germany or having reached an equivalent academic level.
• The programme does not support training in human or dental medicine or postgraduate research stays in Germany.
• Applicants who have already obtained a doctoral degree are not eligible for the scholarship.

Application Procedure

There are two ways to apply for our scholarship program:

1. Country-Specific Selection Process: Each year, specific countries or regions are chosen for our selection process. In 2021, the focus will be on Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and Latin America (coordinated through our office in Peru). Interviews will be conducted online. If you reside in one of these regions, you can submit your written application directly to the relevant KAS office. Please check their website for detailed instructions and contact information. Students from countries not included in the 2021 selection procedure are not eligible to apply for the international process.

2. Domestic Selection Process for Students in Germany: If you are already living or studying in Germany, you can apply via the domestic selection program using our online application procedure. Fill out the application form online and upload all required documents. Do not send any documents by mail, as they will not be considered. The application deadline for the domestic procedure is July 15th (12:00/noon) each year.

Other Details

Required Documents for the Application

If you are applying for an MA Scholarship, please download and complete the application form and include the following documents:

• A detailed CV in tabular form, highlighting your previous voluntary work or social engagement.
• A motivation letter.
• Copies of your examination certificates translated into German, if the originals are not in English.
• Copies of your academic performance records if you have studied at a university in Germany.
• Proof of German language proficiency (B2 level).
• An academic letter of recommendation: This letter should highlight your academic qualifications and potential, and must be no older than two months. The letter should be from a university professor or teacher with a doctoral degree.
• A personal letter of recommendation: This letter should focus on your personality, interests, values, and social engagement. It cannot be from the same person who provided the academic recommendation.
• A certificate of admission or matriculation from your university in Germany.

Additional Documents for PhD Scholarship Applicants:

• A detailed description of your doctoral thesis: This exposé should be written in German or English (5-10 pages, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing). It should explain the central research question, its scientific relevance, your theoretical approach, and the reasons for your chosen research topic. Include a work schedule, time plan, and bibliography.
• A second academic letter of recommendation: If you have a supervisor for your doctoral thesis, this letter should be from them, and it will replace the personal recommendation letter.
• Confirmation of supervision from your doctoral supervisor.
