Overview

The Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund (SCSF) was established with the belief that every determined individual in need should have the chance to pursue higher education. By alleviating some of the financial challenges involved in attending, thriving in, and graduating from college, the SCSF plays a crucial role in enhancing college accessibility and success for many talented yet underserved youth and young adults. The scholarship offers individual grants, paid directly to the institution, to qualifying students who reapply annually, supporting them from enrollment to graduation. These funds can be used to cover tuition fees and additional educational expenses such as books, lab fees, travel, and certain living costs. In return, all Shawn Carter Scholars are expected to give back by engaging in community service and mentoring younger, aspiring Scholars.

Who Can Apply?

• Eligible Countries: U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents
• Students pursuing their first undergraduate degree:
  • High school seniors
  • Students with GED diplomas
  • Students enrolled in 2-year or 4-year undergraduate programs
  • Students enrolled in vocational or trade schools
• Applicants must be 25 years old or younger.
• GPA Requirement: Minimum GPA of 2.0
• Demonstrated Financial Need – On average, selected applicants have an annual household adjusted gross income (AGI) of $75,000 or less

Application Procedure

1. Visit the Official Website: After April 1st, visit the official website to start your application.
2. Start Early: It's recommended to begin the application process early to ensure you have plenty of time to complete it and ask any questions.
3. Share Your Story: Use specific details to describe your extracurricular activities, accomplishments, and challenges. Your application and essay should help the selection committee understand your journey and aspirations.
4. Review Your Application: Check for any grammar or spelling errors before submitting.
5. Submit a Photo (Optional): You may include a photo with your application. If you do, submit a headshot from the shoulders up, similar to an ID card.

What Financial Support is Available?

• Tuition Expenses: Coverage of college tuition fees.
• Supplemental Educational Expenses: This includes costs for books, lab fees, travel, and select living expenses.
• Grant Amount: The expected grant ranges from $1,500 to $2,500.
