Overview

The TWAS-CSIR Postdoctoral Fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity for young scientists from developing countries to conduct advanced research in India. This fellowship, a joint initiative by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), offers a chance to work in various scientific and technological fields at CSIR’s prestigious research laboratories and institutes.

The fellowship offers a duration of 6 to 12 months, allowing researchers to engage in hands-on research while gaining valuable experience in cutting-edge areas of science. Fellows will be supported with a monthly stipend that covers living expenses, food, health insurance, and subsidized accommodation, making it an excellent opportunity for scholars to focus on their research without financial concerns.

Who Can Apply?

• Applicants must be under 45 years old as of December 31, 2025.
• Must be citizens of a developing country (excluding India).
• PhD in a relevant science or technology field.
• Regular employment in a developing country with an active research role.
• Acceptance letter from a CSIR laboratory or institution in India.
• Proof of English proficiency, if applicable.

Application Procedure

• Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from a CSIR institution to both CSIR and TWAS, either during the application process or by the deadline.

  • Applications without preliminary acceptance will not be considered.

• Applications for the TWAS-CSIR Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme must:

  • Be submitted exclusively via the TWAS online portal.
  • Include a copy of the submitted application sent to CSIR via email.
  • A tutorial on using the online application form is available for download.

• Important guidelines:

  • Applicants may apply to only one programme within the TWAS and OWSD portfolio per calendar year.
  • Applicants are not eligible to visit another institution in the same year under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes.
  • Exception: Heads of institutions who invite external scholars under the TWAS Visiting Professor programmes may still apply for another programme.

What Financial Support is Available?
