The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Program in Education Policies for Global Development (GLOBED) is designed to establish new benchmarks in the fields of globalization, education, and international development.
Awarded an Erasmus+ grant by the European Commission for the third time, the program spans from 2023 to 2029, following earlier grants for the 2014–2019 and 2018–2024 periods. Launched in September 2015, GLOBED offers a robust and comprehensive international education framework in global education policy and international development. Unlike many postgraduate programs in Europe, which often treat education for development as a subset of broader International Development Studies with limited disciplinary and geographical scope, GLOBED adopts an interdisciplinary approach. By integrating research centers across Europe and leveraging diverse networks, the program ensures a comprehensive understanding of education and development from a global perspective.
Funded under the European Commission's Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme, GLOBED is a collaborative effort among four leading European universities: the Globalisation, Education, and Social Policies research group at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (coordinating institution), the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow, the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Bremen, and the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Cyprus. Additionally, GLOBED collaborates with over 50 associate partners, including prominent international organizations in the education-for-development sector, offering students opportunities to undertake internships within these institutions.
