Overview

The Hatfield Lioness Scholarship aims to provide an opportunity for a female student from a developing country with limited access to higher education to pursue postgraduate studies at Durham University. Established in 2018 to mark the 30th anniversary of women students at Hatfield College, the scholarship is funded by alumni, friends of the College, and other supporters aligned with its mission.

Hatfield College seeks to award the Lioness Scholarship to a candidate who possesses the academic aptitude and personal qualities to succeed in a postgraduate program. The recipient should also serve as a positive representative of her home country in Durham, utilizing the knowledge and skills gained during the program to contribute meaningfully to her society upon returning home.

Countries Intakes Details

• Applicants must be a national of one of the following countries:

Who Can Apply?

• Be a female applicant from any country.
• Have an unconditional offer for a master’s program by June 2024.
• Not hold a prior master’s degree or have other scholarships for postgraduate study.
• Meet the academic and English language proficiency standards for their course.
• Demonstrate financial need and the inability to pursue the program without the scholarship.

Application Procedure

1. Step 1: Apply for the Master’s Program

   • Submit your academic application and mention your intention to apply for the scholarship.
   • Include required documents such as a CV, personal statement, academic references, and proof of English proficiency.

2. Step 2: Apply for the Scholarship

   • Complete the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship application form.
   • Upload additional documents, including transcripts, reference letters, and your English language certificate.

3. Step 3: Wait for Results

   • Scholarship results will be announced by mid-July 2024.

What Financial Support is Available?

• Monthly stipend to cover living expenses (paid in 12 installments).
• Full coverage of university tuition fees.
• A "settling-in allowance" provided upon arrival.
• Fully funded, self-catered accommodation in mixed housing at Hatfield College.
• One return economy airfare from the home country to the UK, along with travel costs between the UK airport and Durham City.
• Coverage of UK visa fees and the UK Health Surcharge.
