Overview

The Erasmus Mundus CODAS (Computational Data Science) Scholarship is a prestigious academic program designed for students interested in pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science. This scholarship, funded by the European Union, allows students to study at multiple European universities, gaining an interdisciplinary perspective on data science. With a curriculum covering cutting-edge techniques in machine learning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence, CODAS offers a comprehensive foundation in data-driven decision-making.

Who Can Apply?

• Bachelor’s Degree Requirement:

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree equivalent to 180 ECTS credits or three years of full-time study.
  • The degree must qualify the holder to apply for master’s studies at a university in the awarding country.
  • The awarding institution must be recognised as part of the official national education system and accredited as a degree-granting institution by the relevant national or international body (e.g., UNESCO).

• Previous Master’s Degrees:

  • Applicants with a prior master’s degree are not eligible.
  • Exceptions include ‘long-cycle’ master’s degrees awarded without a bachelor’s degree, such as pre-2008 two-cycle degrees in Finland or licentiate of medicine degrees.

• Applying with an Incomplete Degree:

  • Applicants may apply with an incomplete bachelor’s degree if they are set to graduate by 31 July 2025.
  • If admitted, a certified copy of the degree certificate must be submitted by 15 August 2025 (3 pm, GMT +3).
  • Failure to graduate or submit the degree certificate by the deadline will result in the cancellation of the conditional study right.
  • Graduation schedules should be checked in advance, as graduating during summer months may not be possible.
• No other methods of demonstrating English language skills than those listed below are accepted. Applications without the required proof of language proficiency will be rejected.

  • Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency
  • Degree students and exchange students from Consortium Universities
  • University degree completed in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States while residing in that country.

Application Procedure

• The application includes an electronic form, required documents, and a motivation video. Carefully review the document requirements before applying.
• Complete and submit the online application form during the application period. You can edit your form before submission within the period.
• Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications started but not submitted will be rejected.
• All documents must be uploaded by the deadline. No extensions are provided, and documents submitted after the deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances.
• Only eligible applications will be forwarded for academic evaluation. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
• The application form and link are only available during the application period. One form per applicant; multiple submissions are not allowed.
• The application platform works best with a modern browser. Google Chrome is recommended for optimal performance and security.
• Supported browsers: Google Chrome 84+, Mozilla Firefox 78+, Apple Safari 12+, Opera 66+, Microsoft Edge 44+.

Relevance of Previous Studies

Required Background:

• A high-quality bachelor's degree in communications engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or software engineering is required.
• Exceptional candidates with degrees in related fields, such as information systems, engineering, natural sciences, mathematics, or physics, may also be considered if they demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills in the following areas:
  • Mathematics (linear algebra, calculus, probability theory, statistics, and discrete mathematics)
  • Software engineering and programming skills
  • Basics of algorithms and data structures
  • Operating systems
  • Basics of computer networks
  • Basics of communications engineering
  • Basics of mobile and wireless systems

Additional Criteria for TU Braunschweig Students:

• Must demonstrate basic knowledge equivalent to at least 60 ECTS credits in 8 out of 10 core computer science subjects, including:
  • Algorithms and Data Structures
  • Programming
  • Software Engineering
  • Software Development
  • Theoretical Computer Science
  • Logic
  • Operating Systems
  • Computer Networks
  • Database Systems
  • Computer Engineering
• Must have basic knowledge equivalent to at least 15 ECTS credits in the following mathematics subjects:
  • Linear Algebra
  • Analysis
  • Discrete Mathematics

Additional Criteria for UPC Students:

• Must have background knowledge equivalent to at least 5 ECTS credits in Wireless Communications, covering:
  • Propagation, modulations, transmission, cellular networks, architecture of 2G/3G networks, wireless LAN concepts, and IEEE 802.11.
• Must have background knowledge equivalent to at least 5 ECTS credits in Computer Networks, covering:
  • Packet-switching, LAN networks, Ethernet, TCP/IP architecture, IP addressing, IP routing, and protocols (IPv4, IPv6, UDP, TCP, DNS, HTTP, NAT).

Evaluation Focus:

• The content and scope of previous studies are assessed for alignment with the requirements of the CODAS programme.

Demonstrating Competence:

• Applicants must provide:
  • Transcript(s) of records
  • Degree certificate(s)
  • Course descriptions

Admission Timeline

• 4 December 2024 at 9:00 (GMT +2):
  Application period begins, and the online application form opens.

• 10 January 2025 at 15:00 (GMT +2):
  Application period ends, and the online application form closes.
  Deadline for uploading all required application documents, including language test results.

• End of March 2025:
  Admission results are announced.

• Within 13 days of admission results:
  Deadline for selected students with a scholarship to accept their admission offer (study place).

• Within 7 days of scholarship reallocation:
  Deadline for students granted a scholarship from the waiting list to accept their admission offer (study place).

• 30 May 2025 at 15:00 (GMT +3):
  Deadline for selected students without a scholarship to accept their admission offer (study place).

• 31 July 2025:
  Graduation deadline for applicants who applied with an incomplete degree.

• 15 August 2025 at 15:00 (GMT +3):
  Deadline for officially certified study certificates to reach Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering Learning Services.
