The Karsh International Scholarship is one of the most prestigious and fully funded scholarships offered by Duke University in the United States. Karsh International Scholarship is in honor of the exceptional contributions international scholars make to Duke University, the Karsh International Scholarship was founded in 2010 thanks to a generous donation from Martha L. and Bruce A. Karsh. It is designed specifically for international students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to service. The Karsh International Scholarship aims to bring diverse global talent to Duke University while providing them with the resources to pursue undergraduate studies without financial barriers.

Who Can Apply?

To be considered for the Karsh Scholarship Program, you must be:

• An International student
• Have a strong academic background and a documented need for financial aid.
• Not have already obtained a B.A. or B.S. degree prior to their studies at Duke University.

Application Procedure

• Step 1: Apply to Duke University: Applicants must first apply for undergraduate admission to Duke University through either the Common Application or Coalition Application by the university’s regular application deadlines.
• Step 2: Submit required materials: As part of the admission application, candidates will need to submit academic transcripts, standardized test scores (such as SAT or ACT, though these may be optional depending on the year), letters of recommendation, and personal essays.
• Step 3: Automatic scholarship consideration: There is no separate application for the Karsh International Scholarship. All international students applying to Duke University are automatically considered for the scholarship based on their admission application.

What Financial Support is Available?

Scholarship Value: The Karsh International Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship that covers:

• Full tuition fees for four years.
• Room and board (housing and meal plan) for the entire duration of the program.
• Mandatory fees, such as health insurance and other university-related fees.
• Research grants for opportunities like independent research, internships, or study abroad programs during the academic year or summer.

Abhishek Karna, a distinguished alumnus of the Karsh International Scholarship Program at Duke University, has made remarkable contributions to the field of particle physics. As part of the Huang Fellows program, which is a prestigious initiative by the Duke Initiative for Science and Society, Abhishek worked with the Duke High Energy Physics (HEP) group under the mentorship of Dr. Ashutosh Kotwal. His work focused on developing advanced computational algorithms designed for future particle detectors that aim to detect Dark Matter particles—one of the most elusive and exciting areas of study in modern physics.

His research was conducted at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Geneva, Switzerland, which is home to the world's largest particle physics laboratory. At CERN, Abhishek contributed to some of the cutting-edge work being done to explore and understand the fundamental forces and particles that make up the universe. His work is an excellent example of how the Karsh Scholarship not only supports academic excellence but also empowers students to contribute to groundbreaking global research.
