Overview

The Tongarewa Scholarship provides financial support in the form of a partial fee reduction for one year of study at Victoria University of Wellington. Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and are available to international students entering their first year of an undergraduate program or a postgraduate degree. Successful applicants will receive a substantial contribution to their tuition fees, with scholarships of NZ$10,000 available for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and NZ$5,000 for postgraduate students.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be:

• international students who are paying full international fees
• entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree.

You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:

• completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school
• completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Programme
• are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of our overseas partner universities
• are in your second year of study in the same degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.

Application Procedure

To apply for the Tongarewa Scholarship, follow these steps:

1. Start by creating an account on the university’s scholarship portal.
2. Select the program you wish to apply for and check the qualifications and key dates.
3. Review the “How to Apply” section for detailed instructions specific to your chosen program.
4. Submit the following documents:
   • A personal statement (up to 500 words) outlining your reasons for studying at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic goals, and why you deserve the scholarship. Include details of any leadership roles and community involvement.
   • Full transcripts and any other relevant documents.
   • An offer of place (conditional or unconditional) from the university.
