The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship, established in 2016, was created with the aim of attracting talented international students to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate taught study at one of New Zealand’s most prestigious institutions. With a strong global reputation for excellence, the University of Auckland continues to offer a unique opportunity for high-caliber international students to study in a world-class academic environment.

Who Can Apply?

• All international students from countries other than New Zealand and Australia.
• Program Requirements:
  • The scholarship is available for undergraduate, master’s taught degrees, and postgraduate diplomas.
  • Students enrolling in research master’s programmes are not eligible.
  • The scholarship is only available to students enrolling as “on-campus” students (distance education students are not eligible).
  • Undergraduate students from the University of Auckland Foundation Providers (UP Education and Taylors College) and New Zealand secondary-school leavers are ineligible.
• Other Requirements:
  • The scholarship cannot be deferred, and a new application will be required if the student defers their studies.
  • International students must apply for a Masters (taught) of 120 points or more or an undergraduate degree with overseas secondary or post-secondary qualifications.

Application Procedure

1. Before applying for the scholarship, students must apply and be accepted into an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Auckland. Click here to apply for admission.

2. It is highly recommended that applicants read the scholarship regulations carefully before applying.

3. After receiving your admission offer, complete the online scholarship application form. You will need to submit all necessary documents and ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.

4. Once the application is submitted, the scholarship committee will review it. Successful applicants will be notified, and the scholarship will be applied to their tuition fees.

What Financial Support is Available?

• A total of up to 50 scholarships will be granted each year, each valued at up to $10,000 for both postgraduate and undergraduate studies.
• The scholarship amount will be applied as a credit towards compulsory fees for the first semester of study at the University of Auckland.
• Compulsory fees include those directly associated with the selected programme of study, along with the Student Services Fee.
