The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to supporting bright students from developing nations and Japanese students studying abroad. This initiative aims to promote global cultural exchange, mutual friendships, and advanced technological development.

Who Can Apply?

• Applicants must be proficient in both English and Japanese.
• Open to candidates from all countries worldwide, excluding those with Japanese citizenship.
• Students enrolled in professional graduate schools are generally ineligible. However, those who can provide a research plan may apply.
• Age Criteria:
  • PhD applicants must commence their program by age 35.
  • Master’s applicants must begin their course by age 30. (No exceptions)
• Applicants must be capable of conducting everyday conversations in Japanese. Interviews for the scholarship will be conducted exclusively in Japanese, with no exceptions.

Application Procedure

1. Complete the Online Application: Use the web application system to submit your forms and documents.
2. Receive Your Application Number: Save the PDF of your application form for result announcements.

What Financial Support is Available?

• Monthly Stipend:
  • ¥200,000 for 1–2 years
  • ¥180,000 for 3 years
  • ¥150,000 for 4–5 years
• Travel Expenses: Covers costs for attending international conferences.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:

1. Undergraduate and any additional coursework records (photocopies acceptable).
2. Downloadable from the foundation’s website. Include a photo.
3. Covering research goals, schedule, future aspirations, and past research (if applicable).
4. Recommendation Letter: From an academic supervisor, detailing academic achievements, personality, and potential.
5. Certificate of Enrollment or Admission: Photocopies accepted.
6. If documents are not in English or Japanese, a certified translation is required.
