Overview

The Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS) is a highly competitive scholarship program offered by the University of Tasmania to both international and domestic students. The scholarship aims to support high-quality candidates who demonstrate exceptional research potential in various disciplines, including Arts, Law and Education, Business and Economics, Health and Medicine, and Sciences and Engineering.

The TGRS is awarded based on academic merit, prior learning, research experience, and other relevant achievements. Priority is typically given to new candidates pursuing strategic research areas aligned with the university's goals.

Who Can Apply?

• Open to applicants from all countries
• Applicants must have completed at least four years of tertiary education with an upper second-class Honours degree or equivalent
• Applicants must be enrolling full-time in a Masters or PhD research degree in 2024
• Candidates must not be in receipt of another equivalent award, scholarship, or salary that exceeds 75% of the base stipend rate
• Those who have already completed a degree at the same or higher level, or held an Australian Government or University-funded Postgraduate Research Award for more than six months, are still eligible to apply but will not be prioritised in the selection process

What Financial Support is Available?

• AUD $28,597 per annum (indexed annually on January 1st)
• Up to AUD $2,000 to assist with moving to Tasmania
• Minor awards, allowances, or other supplementary income, including earnings from part-time work (within university guidelines)

Other Details

Program Period: PhD: 3.5 years with no extension available. It is important to be aware that the duration of the scholarship is less than the maximum length of candidature which is 4 years.
