Overview

The Stigler Center Journalists in Residence Program, based at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, offers a unique opportunity for journalists around the world to deepen their understanding of political economy. Scheduled for 2025, this 12-week program will run from March 19 to May 31, 2025, and is open to journalists with several years of experience across all media platforms. Participants will have the chance to audit Chicago Booth classes, attend exclusive events, and collaborate with peers and experts in the field.

The program encourages journalists who have a keen interest in political economy and wish to enhance their reporting skills in business journalism. During their residency at the Hyde Park campus, participants will engage with faculty and esteemed scholars, gaining valuable insights into topics like regulatory capture, crony capitalism, and economic trends.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be:

• Working journalists who have some years of media experience.

Application Procedure

To apply, candidates must submit:

• Resume/CV
• Three published articles (or video/audio links for TV/radio journalists)
• Personal essay (500 words)
• Two letters of recommendation
• Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)

What Financial Support is Available?

• Airfare reimbursement for economy-class travel to and from Chicago, along with coverage of SEVIS and visa application fees.
• A stipend of $12,000 to support living expenses during the 12-week program.

Other Details

The program will take place on our Hyde Park campus over approximately 12 weeks.

Program participants are required to:

• Attend and audit three courses.
• Engage actively in class discussions, complete all necessary readings, and submit assignments on time.
• Take part in Stigler lectures, social gatherings, and other events organized by the center.
• Sign an agreement confirming mutual understanding of the program's guidelines and expectations.
