Overview

The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program was established in 2000 by Orascom Construction to invest in Egypt’s future through education. This initiative exemplifies how private sector contributions can drive sustainable development by nurturing young Egyptian talent. The program provides opportunities for students to pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees at some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, offering a pathway to personal and professional growth.

Who Can Apply?

For Undergraduates:

• Be Egyptian nationals, who are residents of Egypt (preference will not be given to dual nationality applicants).
• Be planning to start their studies in the U.S.A in the year 2025.
• Be committed to coming back to Egypt for two years directly after the successful completion of their bachelor’s degree.
• Have not lived more than 3 years abroad.
• iBT TOEFL: 100 or above
• GPA 3.5 / 90% in Thanaweyya Amma certification (Secondary year) or equivalent certificates
• Minimum SAT I Score:
  • Old SAT (before May 2017): Overall: 2100 Reading: 700 Math: 700 Writing: 700
  • New SAT (after May 2017): Overall: 1450 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 730 Math: 730
• or SAT II in 3 subjects: 600 or above.
• Have some Extracurricular Activities.

For Masters:

• Be Egyptian nationals, who are residents of Egypt (preference will be given to non-holders of dual nationality).
• Plan on pursuing their master’s degree at one of the top universities in the United States in the field of Business Administration or Engineering.
• Have not lived more than 3 years abroad.
• Be committed to return to Egypt for two years directly after completing their bachelor’s degree.
• TOEFL: iBT = 100 or above
• GPA : 3.5 / Very Good or above (Overall grade)
• A minimum of three years working experience.
• MBA – GMAT: 650 or above (taken within 5 years)
• Extracurricular Activities Have been involved or are currently involved in extracurricular activities.
• Old GRE scores are no longer acceptable.
• New GRE scores: Minimum acceptable
  • Overall: 302
  • Analytical Writing: 4.5
• Fields of Study: Engineering, Business Administration, and Construction management.

Application Procedure

1. Create an account on the Amideast website.
2. Complete personal and educational details.
3. Write two essays:
   • Essay 1 (500 words): How will attending your desired university help you succeed on personal, local, and national levels?
   • Essay 2 (350 words): What are you passionate about, and how have you pursued this passion?
4. Attach these documents:
   • Application form.
   • Transcripts.
   • Resume.
   • Graduation or Thanaweyya Amma certificate (if available).
   • Test scores (SAT, TOEFL).
   • Two recommendation letters.
5. Submit the application.

What Financial Support is Available?

The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship covers full tuition, a living allowance, travel and health insurance.

Other Details

Important Notes:

• Candidates holding an Egyptian Master’s degree in a different technical field from the one they are applying for will be considered.
• Candidates who already possess a Master’s degree from a foreign university, or an Egyptian Master’s degree in the same field they are applying for, will not be eligible.
• Being nominated for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program does not guarantee acceptance into a university. Applicants will receive support only for applications to the approved universities listed below. The scholarship will be awarded only after university acceptance is confirmed.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have not spent a significant period of time living, working, or studying abroad.
• The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program is available only for the list of endorsed universities.
