Overview

The SBW Berlin Scholarship is designed for undergraduate and master's students who are passionate about learning and making a difference in the world. The scholarship supports students from all fields of study, with a special focus on those who plan to engage in long-term non-profit initiatives, preferably in their home countries, after their studies.

The scholarship is awarded to students on the basis of their academic qualifications, personal aptitudes, and social needs. It covers essential living expenses, tuition fees, and even provides accommodation in Berlin for the duration of the study program.

Who Can Apply?

• Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old.
• Applicants must be in the first, second, or at most third semester of a Bachelor's degree, or applying for a Master’s degree shortly before or after completing a Bachelor’s degree. The academic qualifications should be equivalent to a German grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0.
• The scholarship is intended for students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The total household income of the applicant must be below the average income stated for their home country.

Application Procedure

Follow these steps to apply for the SBW Berlin Scholarship:

1. University Admission: You must have admission, acceptance, or evidence of eligibility to a university in Berlin or Potsdam.

2. Fill in the Application Form: The application form requires personal and contact information, along with a photograph.

3. Provide Educational Information: Include details about your current and previous education, including your highest school or university certificates, grade point average, and any relevant work or volunteer experience.

4. Submit the Required Documents:

   • Motivation Letter: A letter (1-2 pages) explaining why you are applying for the scholarship and how it will help you achieve your academic and career goals.
   • Academic Certificates: Copies of your latest school or university certificates, including a grade point average and grade overview.
   • Language Proficiency Certificate: If available, submit a recognized language certificate for the language in which you will be studying.
   • Additional Documents: If applicable, submit references, proof of household income, and any previous work or internship certificates.

5. Send your completed application along with all supporting documents in German or English to the email address: application@sbw.berlin.

6. You can expect the final decision on whether you’ve been awarded the scholarship by the beginning of February or August each year.

What Financial Support is Available?

• Cost-of-living allowance in the amount calculated in section IX.
• Tuition fees
• Possibly also a travel allowance for your journey to Berlin before the start of your studies and for the journey home after you have completed your studies
