The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) at ETH Zurich supports top-performing Master's students through:
A full scholarship that covers both tuition and living expenses
Mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation's network
A support system throughout the regular duration of the Master's programme (typically 3 to 4 semesters)
Living and study expenses: CHF 12,000 per semester
Tuition fee waiver for the entire duration of the Master's degree
Application window: 1st November to 30th November 2025 (Deadline: 11:59 PM MEZ)
Final decision: End of March 2026
To apply for the ESOP, you must:
Have excellent academic performance (top 10% of your Bachelor's programme or grade A)
Be applying for a Master’s programme at ETH Zurich (via eApply platform)
Be reachable by phone (you may be contacted for an interview in February)
Not already be enrolled in a Master’s programme at ETH Zurich or hold a Master’s degree
Note: Only current ETH Zurich Bachelor’s students can apply for ESOP during a leave of absence.
Applications for ESOP must be submitted via the eApply online Master’s application portal. Here’s what you need:
All documents needed for ETH Zurich Master’s admission
A pre-proposal for your Master’s thesis
Must be written by you and follow proper scientific citation practices

If references are not required for your Master’s programme, you must nominate two professors as referees. They will receive an email to upload a reference letter.
Important: Any form of plagiarism or false information can result in disqualification or cancellation of admission/scholarship—either immediately or even after award.
Around 60 ESOP scholarships will be awarded for the 2025/26 academic year.
Applications are reviewed by the Admissions Committees of each Master’s programme.
Final selection is made by the Rector of ETH Zurich, depending on fund availability.
Results will be communicated by the end of March 2026.
