The Rhodes Scholarship, one of the most prestigious academic awards in the world, offers a life-changing opportunity to outstanding students across the globe to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. While most Rhodes Scholarships are allocated by country or region (known as constituencies), the Rhodes Scholarships for Global applicants are specifically designed for talented individuals from countries not covered by existing constituencies.

If your home country does not fall within one of the 22 Rhodes constituencies, you may still be eligible to apply through the Global Scholarship route—as long as you meet all the academic, character, and leadership criteria, and receive the necessary nomination.

What Is the Rhodes Global Scholarship?

Each year, two Rhodes Scholarships for Global applicants are awarded. This route ensures that the opportunity to study at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar remains inclusive and far-reaching, embracing truly international diversity.

Global applicants must:

Be nominated by their university or institution, and
Have their eligibility confirmed by a Rhodes House team member before final submission.

Unlike the traditional routes, the Global Scholarship requires both a nomination and pre-approval before your application can be considered complete. This two-step verification helps maintain high standards and ensures the best candidates are shortlisted.

Opening Date: 2 June 2025
Last Date to Start an Application: 29 July 2025
Final Deadline (Submit Completed Application): 23:59 GMT, 31 July 2025

Note: You will not be able to submit your application unless your nomination is received and your eligibility is approved by Rhodes House.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Rhodes Global Scholarship, you must:

Be from a country not listed under any of the 22 Rhodes constituencies.
Have an outstanding academic record (typically a First Class or equivalent undergraduate degree).
Be between 18 and 24 years of age by 1 October 2025 (some flexibility exists for those who completed their first degree later).
Exhibit exceptional character, leadership, and commitment to service.
Be nominated by your current university/institution via the application portal.
Have confirmation of eligibility through the Rhodes application system.

Additionally, you must meet the entry requirements for your chosen course at the University of Oxford.

Application Process

Request Nomination: During the application, request a nomination from your current university. Without this, your application cannot proceed.
Eligibility Approval: The Rhodes team will review your eligibility. Only after receiving their approval can you submit your application.
Prepare Supporting Documents:
- Academic transcript(s)
- Personal statement
- Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of age
- A list of chosen referees (minimum 4, maximum 6)
Referee Submission: Make sure your referees submit their recommendations before the final deadline.
Submit Application: Once nomination and eligibility confirmation are in place, submit your application before 31 July 2025.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

The Rhodes Global Scholarship is fully funded and includes:

Oxford University course fees
An annual stipend (approx. £18,180/year for 2024–25)
Settling-in allowance
Health insurance contribution
Two economy-class flights (to and from the UK)
