The World Bank Legal Vice Presidency Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for law students to gain practical experience in international legal operations while working in a dynamic and multicultural environment. Program Overview

The Legal Internship Program provides firsthand exposure to the World Bank’s legal functions by enabling interns to collaborate closely with senior professionals and legal experts. Interns will participate in high-profile events and contribute to legal services, research, and policy analysis, making this a valuable learning experience.

The internship is offered three times a year for a maximum duration of three months. Interns may be placed at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C., or in selected country offices where a Legal Vice Presidency lawyer is present.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the World Bank Legal Internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a citizen of a World Bank IBRD member state.

  • Must be enrolled in a legal academic program (LLB, JD, LLM, SJD, PhD, or equivalent) during the internship period.

  • Must have an excellent command of English.

  • Proficiency in an additional IBRD working language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is preferred.

  • Open to both international and U.S.-based students.


Internship Cycles & Application Deadlines

The program follows three internship cycles each year:

1. Summer Internship Program

  • Application Period: December 1 – December 31, 2024

  • Internship Duration: 10-12 weeks (June – August)

  • Ideal for: Students seeking full-time summer internships while enrolled in a law program.

2. Fall Internship Program

  • Application Period: April 1 – April 30, 2025

  • Internship Duration: 10-12 weeks (September – November)

  • Ideal for: Law students looking for externships during the academic year (part-time or full-time options available).

3. Spring Internship Program

  • Application Period: September 1 – September 30, 2025

  • Internship Duration: 10-12 weeks (March – May)

  • Ideal for: Students seeking externships during the academic year (part-time or full-time options available).

Important: All applications must be submitted within the respective application periods.


Internship Responsibilities

Interns will engage in a variety of legal tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting legal research and analysis under the supervision of senior lawyers.

  • Preparing comparative legal studies on various policy and legal issues.

  • Assisting in the preparation of legal documents, contracts, and agreements.

  • Supporting legal and policy discussions related to World Bank operations.

  • Assisting in the organization of conferences and meetings.

  • Performing ad hoc assignments as required by supervising lawyers.
