The GenMH University Mental Health Fellowship is an exciting initiative designed to support undergraduate students in addressing mental health needs on their university campuses. Launched in Summer 2023, this six-month funded program provides selected students with the necessary resources, mentorship, and training to implement impactful mental health projects.
Fellows receive extensive support, including:
Workshops covering project management, safety in advocacy, and monitoring & evaluation.
Networking opportunities with peers and global mental health professionals.
One-on-one mentorship tailored to individual project needs.
Financial support, including a $400 stipend and access to an additional $350 in project funding.
Presentation & speaking opportunities to showcase their work.
A certificate of completion upon successfully completing the program.
To apply, students must:
Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's/Undergraduate degree.
Remain enrolled for the entire duration of the Fellowship (July - December 2025).
Be able to attend two monthly Zoom sessions (Saturdays at 11 AM New York / 4 PM Lagos / 8:30 PM Delhi time).
Have a project idea addressing a mental health issue on their university campus.
Fellows are expected to dedicate:
3-6 hours/month for workshops, mentorship, and networking.
1-4 additional hours/month for assignments related to the workshops.
Additional project development hours, which will vary based on individual project needs.
Applications for the 2025 Fellowship cohort are now open and due by April 20, 2025 (11:59 PM EDT). The process includes:
Written Application Review – Evaluating project feasibility and personal motivation.
Interviews – Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a 20-30 minute interview in May 2025.
Final Selection – Fellows will be chosen by June 2025.
The selection team looks for:
A clear and viable project plan that can be successfully launched within the Fellowship period.
A strong personal connection to the project’s target audience.
Demonstrated skills and experience relevant to project execution.
A commitment to long-term impact beyond the Fellowship.
Collaboration skills and willingness to engage with mentors and peers.
Ensure eligibility – Only currently enrolled undergraduates with university-focused projects can apply.
Clearly outline project impact – Detail the process, goals, and expected outcomes.
Provide specific execution plans – Mention tools, resources, and a realistic timeline.
Showcase relevant experience – Even non-mental health experience can demonstrate transferable skills.
Cohort Size: 4-5 Fellows.
Global Eligibility: Students from any country are welcome to apply.
Team Projects: While only one representative can apply, additional team members may attend skill-building sessions.
