Internship Objectives

The Sustainable Student Farm Internship provides participants with hands-on experience in sustainable farming techniques. Interns will gain valuable knowledge about vegetable production, land stewardship, and farm management while contributing to growing food for the university campus community.


Intern Responsibilities

Interns will be engaged in various farming activities from Monday to Thursday, including:

  • Planting and cultivating crops

  • Weeding and trellising plants

  • Irrigating and maintaining farm plots

  • Harvesting and washing produce

  • Assisting with farm stand and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operations


Learning Activities & Skill Development

The internship is not just about physical work—it also includes learning-focused activities to help interns build a well-rounded understanding of sustainable farming.

1. Lectures & Discussions (Fridays)

Interns will participate in discussions and lectures on key agricultural topics such as:

  • Farm design and planning

  • Various aspects of vegetable production

  • Soil health and farm ecosystem sustainability

  • Social issues surrounding food security

2. Experiential Learning

  • Farm Tours: Visits to local farms and community gardens

  • Volunteering: Hands-on experience working at other sustainable agriculture projects

  • Managerial Roles: Interns rotate through leadership roles in farm stand management, CSA operations, outreach, and record-keeping.

3. Individual Project

Each intern will manage their own vegetable beds, gaining experience in:

  • Planning and planting crops

  • Harvesting and record-keeping
