Shaping Tomorrow: The Indo-Pacific Futures Fellowship

The Indo-Pacific Futures Fellowship (IPFF), a joint initiative by the East-West Center and the Doris Duke Foundation, is committed to fostering innovative leadership in food security, energy systems, and governance. Now in its second year, the program equips professionals with the knowledge and skills to tackle global challenges related to resource access and economic stability.


About the Fellowship

This immersive program integrates storytelling, cross-sector discussions, and hands-on experiences to empower participants in building sustainable food and energy systems. Fellows will collaborate with experts and peers to develop forward-thinking solutions that ensure long-term stability and accessibility of vital resources.


Program Structure & Locations

Fellows from diverse fields—including government, business, media, advocacy, and the arts—will engage in a mix of virtual and in-person sessions across multiple locations:

  • Pre-Residency Virtual Sessions: October 13-26, 2025

  • Honolulu, Hawai‘i: October 27 - November 7, 2025

  • Ongoing Virtual Sessions: November 8, 2025 - May 24, 2026

  • Wellington, New Zealand: May 25-31, 2026

Application Deadline: April 18, 2025 (11:00 PM HST)
Letter of Reference Deadline: April 27, 2025 (11:59 PM HST)


Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 5 to 10 years of leadership experience in food or energy systems, including roles in advocacy, policymaking, or industry.

  • Prior engagement with the Indo-Pacific region in a professional or research capacity.

  • Open to candidates worldwide—no nationality restrictions.

  • Fluent in English (submission of language test scores is encouraged but not mandatory).

  • Valid passport through 2026.

  • Commitment to in-person travel for two weeks (October–November 2025) and one week in May 2026, plus virtual sessions and a capstone project.


Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of higher education (recommended but not required).

  • Experience working with diverse communities and perspectives.

  • Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.

  • Ability to embrace creative problem-solving and cross-sector collaboration.
