The Civic Media Fellowship is an eight-month, part-time program designed for individuals who use media and technology to drive social change. Prioritizing historically underrepresented voices and perspectives, this fellowship welcomes those whose work defies easy categorization. Fellows engage in weekly discussions, collaborative projects, and structured reflection, all while receiving a total stipend of $16,000 over the duration of the program.
Are you passionate about using media and technology to create meaningful change? The Civic Media Fellowship brings together a diverse cohort of innovators, journalists, activists, and technologists to explore how media can shape public discourse, influence policy, and inspire action. Through mentorship, hands-on projects, and skill-building sessions, Fellows gain the knowledge and experience needed to become leaders in the field of civic media.
Duration: September 9, 2025 – April 28, 2026 (Winter break: December 11, 2025 – February 2, 2026)
Format: Hybrid (virtual and in-person components)
Time Commitment: Weekly virtual meetings on Tuesdays from 1 – 2:30 PM PT, plus independent project development
Eligibility: Open to individuals with a strong commitment to civic engagement and media innovation

This fellowship is for individuals who don’t fit neatly into established career paths. Ideal candidates include cultural strategists, technologists, journalists, filmmakers, community organizers, and creators working at the intersections of media, technology, and civic engagement. No specific degree or career stage is required—only a commitment to exploring new ideas and contributing to a vibrant community.

Step 1: Submit an online application detailing your background, interests, and proposed civic media project.
Step 2: Provide contact information for two references, one of whom must complete a recommendation form.
Step 3: Applications will be reviewed by a panel of staff and Senior Fellows, with a select group invited for interviews.
