The Green Futures Postgraduate Taught Scholarship is designed to support talented individuals from Low and Lower Middle-Income Countries, providing them with the chance to pursue higher education and contribute to sustainable development.
This scholarship is designed to assist students who:
Explore the scientific, social, cultural, and human dimensions of sustainability.
Acquire the necessary skills and creativity to drive a sustainable economy and society.
Develop a global perspective, embracing cultural inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
Positively impact the economic and social progress of their home countries after graduation.
The Green Futures Scholarship covers full tuition fees and offers a stipend for living expenses. It is awarded to one outstanding international student who lacks the financial means to pursue sustainability-focused academic and professional aspirations.
The scholarship is available for one-year, full-time, campus-based Postgraduate Taught degrees within the Faculty of Environment, Science, and Economy, including:
MSc Applied Data Science (Ecology and Evolution)
MSc Applied Data Science (Environment & Sustainability)
MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy)
MSc Conservation and Biodiversity
MSc Construction Design Management
MSc Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology
MSc Geographical Information Science
MSc Global Sustainability Solutions
MSc Marine and Coastal Sustainability
MSc Mining Environmental Management
MSc Renewable Energy Engineering
MSc Sustainable Business Management (including Environment and Tourism pathways)
MSc Sustainable Development
MSc Weather and Climate Science
To qualify, applicants must:
Be classified as an international student for tuition purposes.
Hold citizenship or a passport from a Low or Lower Middle-Income Country (as per the relevant classification table).
Have received an offer for one of the eligible Master’s programmes at the University of Exeter for the 2025/26 academic year (September 2025 intake).
Attain or expect to attain the equivalent of a UK first-class undergraduate degree.
Not have previously studied or worked in a High-Income Country.
Prospective applicants who have not yet applied for an eligible Master’s programme must submit their application via the Postgraduate Taught Study pages by 29 March 2025 to be considered. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a virtual interview.
Once an offer has been received for an eligible programme, students may apply for the Green Futures Scholarship by submitting the official application form.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a personal statement (maximum 500 words) addressing the following:
Interest and Relevance: How does the chosen programme align with sustainable development in the applicant’s home country?
Previous Contributions: What initiatives has the applicant undertaken individually or collectively to support sustainability efforts in their country?
Goals at Exeter: What does the applicant hope to achieve and contribute during their studies, and how will the scholarship support their academic and professional aspirations?
Future Impact: What are the applicant’s long-term goals, and how will they maintain ties with the University of Exeter post-graduation?
Application Deadline: 29 March 2025
The scholarship covers one year of study only.
