The National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) – On the Move is inviting applications for its Incoming Short-Term Visiting Fellowships for the Fall 2025 term. This esteemed program provides researchers with the chance to collaborate with experts in migration and mobility studies at leading Swiss universities.
Designed to foster international research exchange, this fellowship is open to both senior researchers (postdoctoral level) and junior researchers (doctoral students and Master’s degree holders) from institutions outside Switzerland. Preference is given to scholars from low- and middle-income countries.
Selected fellows will participate in a two- to three-month residency, working closely with NCCR teams on collaborative projects. Potential activities include:
Conducting joint research
Developing research proposals
Organizing workshops
Co-authoring publications
Fellows will receive a stipend to cover living and travel expenses, including:
CHF 3,500 per month
Round-trip travel costs from their place of residence to the host university
Additional travel support for attending NCCR events in Switzerland
Applicants must select one of the following research projects (Individual Projects – IP) as their host team:
IP40: Narratives of Crisis and Their Role in Shaping Migration and Mobility Policies
IP41: The Territorial Economics and Politics of Emigration in Crisis Regions
IP43: Attitudes Towards Migration and Democracy Amid Intertwined Crises (Subproject 1, led by Prof. Eva Green, focusing on multilevel survey data analysis)
IP45: The Agency of Ukrainian and Syrian Forced Migrants Across Three National Contexts

Senior Fellows:
Must hold a doctoral degree
Cannot have a tenured position in a high-income country
Must not have permanent residency or affiliation in Switzerland
Should submit a research plan that aligns with NCCR’s research objectives
Junior Fellows:
Must be enrolled in a doctoral program or hold a Master’s degree
Cannot have permanent residency or affiliation in Switzerland
Should submit a research plan relevant to NCCR’s research themes

Motivation letter (one page) outlining research interests and goals
Research plan (two pages) detailing expected outcomes and potential collaborations

This fellowship is not a salaried position but offers a stipend to cover essential living and travel expenses. Fellows must arrange their own health insurance and visas for their stay in Switzerland.
