For over six decades, the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists has been offering a remarkable opportunity to media professionals from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania. The fellowship enables selected journalists to report on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its crucial initial months from September to November. Through this program, participants gain hands-on experience in covering international policymaking and engaging with global leaders, diplomats, and subject-matter experts.


Applications Now Open for the 2025 Fellowship

The application process for the prestigious 2025 Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowship is now underway. This program is designed for committed journalists working across print, television, radio, and digital platforms who are passionate about international affairs and global issues.


Why Apply?

Fellows are granted exclusive access to UNGA meetings, high-profile press conferences, and in-depth briefings. This exposure allows them to gain insights into diplomatic negotiations and global decision-making processes while expanding their professional networks with journalists from diverse backgrounds.

Selected fellows will:

  • Report directly from the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

  • Cover major international discussions on pressing topics like peace, security, climate change, human rights, and economic development.

  • Interact with UN officials, global leaders, and experts.

  • Sharpen their skills in international journalism through first-hand exposure to multilateral diplomacy.


Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the 2025 fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be full-time professional journalists working in print, television, radio, or online media.

  • Have at least five years of professional journalism experience.

  • Be currently employed by a media organization that actively covers international affairs.

  • Exhibit a strong interest in UN-related topics and global policies.

  • Provide samples of their recent work showcasing high-quality reporting.

Please note that applications from Ghana, Namibia, and Kashmir will not be accepted in 2025.

  3. Submit necessary documents in the prescribed formats (PDF, Word, JPEG, or MP3) while adhering to word limits.

Once submitted, applications cannot be altered. Incomplete or late entries will not be considered.
